The driveway fills fast and there is no parking along the street. With all the rain you will most likely get stuck anyway.
The elementary school is a good spot to park. Please don't walk along the street! Rather, stay on the playground side and follow the tree line to a marked path that cuts through to a good spot to cross the street into the driveway.
It is about a 200 yard jaunt so gentlemen may want to drop off their ladies before they park.
Please, don't walk along the street.
Impromptu and informal gatherings of the Miller family and friends are some of my favorite memories as each event is unique. About a recent event he hosted at his place, my beloved friend said that each person is a part of the tapestry that makes up the moment. With all credit due to Tracey, his phrase is the so true of all the great people that visit our gatherings, big or small.
A notion our Mom called “grazing” is a smattering of food and paper plates presented all day long. This allowed each of us to come and go with no set timelines. As our schedules became filled with other commitments this all-day grazing allowed us to spend many meaningful and memorable Sundays at Mom and Dad’s house without a formal meal being served. Though Mom found a solemn pride in serving a grand and fantastic meal we were just as happy munching on Scooby snacks. Cheeses, veggies, dips, sausages, chips... Ribs, chicken, steaks... Grazing can be as complicated or as simple as you want to make it. As Mom's focus shifted away from preparing formal meals the 'grazing' technique became even more enjoyable for everyone.
With a wide variety of schedules and commitments the times that all 5 of us were together was far less often than any of us preferred. But those not present were always brought to the gathering in spirit. Actively so by the topics of conversations but often privately by the memory or a thought stirred by the goings on.
Ours is a comfortable circle of friends and those that join these gatherings are thought of as family...and the circle is always open.
Shortly after moving into our current house, impromptu gatherings were enjoyed in the driveway. This zero prep, low fuss venue makes for a relaxed atmosphere for all involved. What the critters don't clean up overnight, the dropped stuff simply gets hosed away the next morning. Simplicity. No dirty carpets to fret about and no one gets in trouble when a food fight breaks out.
As most of the time was spent BS'ing with a beer in hand the "King of the Hill party" name was given to these events. Hank and Peggy Hill, Boomhauer...were always somehow represented...you decide who is whom. (Bill Dauterive sports my favorite fashion.)
Spring of 2006 we combined a number of birthdays and a Mother's day celebration into one and each of us invited a few friends. We didn't plan it at the time but this has become an annual event and the crowd has grown each year!
In 2013 we added a charitable component to the invitations and were amazed at the generousity!
2016 will be the 10th year that we have enjoyed all of y'all coming. Please join us again?
